Feeding The Equine Athlete
Like human professional sports players, elite-level horses require a well-tuned diet to perform at their best. When we consider the activities of some of these horses, from galloping furloughs at 40mph to clearing 30+ jumps in a cross country track, it’s no surprise they need a considered diet. Often, a great deal of attention is paid to hard feed to address the nutritional requirements of such horses. Forage is often overlooked. However, taking up a much higher % of a horses overall diet, forage should be met with equal consideration.
For horses in high levels of work owners should look for forage with a high leaf to stem ratio. This will provide a high level of energy and protein to aid in muscle repair and development whilst providing the calories needed for weight maintenance.
Our Haylage Elite is specially developed for horses in high levels of work. It provides high levels of energy and protein with a moderate fibre content lending excellent support to muscle development and repair as well as raising overall energy (calorie) intake from fibre sources. This also makes it one of our most palatable and ‘softest’ products which can be useful for fussy feeders.
We deliver in the UK and internationally to race yards, polo clubs, and competition yards as well and private owners. Contact sales@mandthaylage.com with your enquiry or call our expert team on 01709234946.
